Silverado Contractors was awarded the contract for the demolition of Warren Hall, widely recognized as the most seismically unsafe building in the CSU system due to its location almost directly atop the active Hayward Fault Line. The 13-story concrete structure underwent full hazardous material abatement, and the pedestrian bridge connecting it to the adjacent university library was removed in preparation for the planned implosion.
Given the project’s high profile, extensive coordination was required with multiple agencies, neighboring stakeholders, and interested parties. On the day of the implosion, seismic monitors were placed throughout the surrounding area to record ground movement. The event was completed safely, drawing significant media attention and thousands of spectators. Following the implosion, Silverado completed the removal and disposal of all downed concrete and debris.
