Silverado Contractors was contracted to perform the industrial cleaning and demolition of the former Commercial Metals Company (CMC) steel salvage and rebar fabrication mill, a 100-acre facility that had been in operation since the 1950s. The site contained multiple industrial structures that supported decades of scrap steel receiving, melting, slag processing, and rebar production. Silverado’s scope included the removal and disposal of asbestos, regulated waste, and hazardous materials across the expansive facility.
Demolition work involved the removal of 36 structures totaling approximately 293,500 square feet, along with 3.6 million square feet of site improvements including concrete flatwork, asphalt paving, scales, and support structures. Foundations and concrete slabs were demolished to depths of 10 feet below grade. All concrete was crushed to 2” minus and repurposed as backfill material for deep voids beneath the former Melt Shop, supporting sustainable site restoration and future redevelopment.
